Frequently asked questions

We’re here to help.

Rebuilding North Suburban Chicago serves low income applicants, veterans, persons with disabilities, and families with children.
Applicants must own the homes, be current on their property taxes and homeowners insurance, and meet our specified household income requirements.
You will be asked to include information about your total household income, including current employment or Social Security and/or pension benefits. You will also be asked to describe the condition of your home, the top three concerns you would like us to address with repairs, and the names and birthdates of each resident in the home.
After a comprehensive inspection, our board of directors will select projects based on need and available resources. Applications are processed year-round and home inspections are scheduled by our house captains based on homeowner availability.
Our concerns are with the safety, health and independence of each homeowner and the people living in the home. Repairs are done safely and compliant with applicable codes. Roofs, sewer and foundations are not typically within our scope of work. As such, the repairs that we typically complete include the following: Painting
Flooring, Electrical, Plumbing, Accessibility, HVAC, and Windows.
All repairs are FREE for eligible homeowners-including labor and materials.
You may apply for help year-round. Please note, however, that in order to qualify as one of our special Rebuilding Day projects which occur on or around the last Saturday in April every year, applications must be received by January 15th of that year, unless otherwise extended.
